Description

Danish Teak Floating Desk – Mid Modern Century Desk

Arney Vodder for Sibast

Danish teak floating desk is an executive desk designed by Arney Vodder for Sibast, Denmark in 1960’s.

This rectangular desk shows wonderful details, that are very well executed. The solid teak legs are slightly tapered, which is a subtle yet important detail. The well-proportioned frame holds the drawer cabinets, that beautifully seem to be floating underneath the top.

The desk is suited with two drawer units with several drawers. The rising solid edges on the left and right side, beautifully finish the top. The grain and color of the wood give this writing table a very warm expression.

Arne Vodder (1926-2009) should be counted among the most influential Scandinavian midcentury designers, although he is not as well-known as for instance Hans Wegner or Arne Jacobson. Once a student at famous furniture designer Finn Juhl, who later became his friend and business partner. Vodder started out as an architect who designed low-cost housing, later on, he began designing furniture. Although his designs are anything but low-quality, his aim for the functional design that could be used by all remained important. He designed amongst others for Fritz Hansen and Sibast.
